This is an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) which has been adapted to suit a particular audience and is an ideal course for lower risk businesses in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (NI) (amended) 2017.
The course is run over one day or 6-7 hours covering a range of Medical related emergencies. This course is for individuals who wish to gain knowledge in Emergency procedures and attain a qualification in Emergency First Aid at Work . It should be remembered that the Emergency First Aider should not attempt to give first aid for which they have not been trained.
The syllabus of the EFAW course is:-
- Role & Responsibilities of the First Aider
- How to assess an incident
- Management Unresponsive Casualty Breathing normally
- Management Unresponsive casualty Not Breathing normally
- Management of a Seizure
- Safe use of an AED
- Recognise & treat Choking
- Management of wounds & Bleeding
- Managing a casualty in Shock
- First Aid Provision
- Dealing with Minor Injuries
- Recording and Reporting
This is an approved workplace course. There is no final exam however there will be continuous evaluation throughout the course learners deemed to have reached the required standard will be issued with an certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work which is valid for 3 years.
The HSE has strongly recommended that those attending this course attend annual refresher training lasting 2-3 hours. This is not compulsory but it is strongly RECOMMENDED by them.
